|
1884-1885 World's Industrial & Cotton Centennial Exposition postal history collection of 25 items, 17 of which are illustrated covers relating to this early
fair, the first World's Fair in the Southern United States, most of the illustrations are of the various buildings of the fair, some illustrated on both back and front, all are domestic first or third class usages, except there is one to
Paramaribo, Dutch Guiana (a very scarce destination), many cancelled by the fair's "New Orleans Ex. Sta." duplex, some with additional company's advertisements, including Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway, also of special note is one
cover addressed to Mrs. Jefferson Davis, other items includes a letter written on illustrated letterhead, covers with exhibition cancels or receiver markings, a registered receipt from the exhibition post office, three trading cards, and a few
other items, a few small faults but mostly fine-very fine; would make a great start to an exhibit collection of this World's Fair; accompanied by a 2004 American Philatelist article on the subject.
