The extreme rarity of this stamp is attributed to the way in which the surcharge was produced. They were arranged in a setting of thirty stamps (6x5) and printed in sheets of 60 containing two complete settings. Only one position in the setting contained the type 9 surcharge. As only four sheets of the Two Shilling stamps were made, that leaves only eight examples of Stanley Gibbons #69 to have been printed. One of the great rarities of all the British Commonwealth. However, the italic "N" variety of this stamp occurs in only one of every four type 11 stamps, making for a mere eight copies ever printed. That makes it on par with the other great rarities of this issue (S.G. #68 and 71), although this stamp seems to come up with even less frequency than these other rarities. In fact, this is the first example of the Two Shilling type 11 surcharge with italic "N" that we can recall seeing.A most impressive example of a stamp that is missing from virtually every collection. Accompanied by a 1976 PF certificate (as Scott #62) and a 2008 BPA certificate; ex-Lutwak, "Samos" (Scott #62 var.). (Image) £40,000

Like its Type 9 counterpart, it occurred only once in the setting of thirty, producing only eight examples. One of these is known used, leaving only seven mint examples available. With its impressive centering, color and overall freshness, this particular copy is generally regarded as the finest of these seven. A fabulous British Empire rarity and the highlight of the Sovereign Collection. Accompanied by 1934 RPS and 2008 BPA certificates; ex-Boucher, Isleham and "Samos" (Scott #63A; $47,500.00).
