1847 Invitation to the February 12, 1883, coronation of King Kalakaua and Queen Kapiolani, housed in small old glass and particle board frame (about 8 x 5 34), nicely printed with
gold lettering, multicolored royal coat of arms at top, handwrittenInvitation to the February 12, 1883, coronation of King Kalakaua and Queen Kapiolani, housed in small old glass and particle board frame (about 8" x 5 3/4"), nicely printed with gold lettering, multicolored royal coat of arms at top, handwritten "Mrs. Townsend" as the invited, some minor foxing due to age, but seems to be in excellent condition; this was Hawai'i's first "Western" coronation ceremony, during a time when the government wished to elevate its position on the world stage as equals with the other monarchies of the day, as noted by witnesses, the king placed his English-made crown on his own head and then had difficulty fitting the queen's crown on her well-coiffed brow; an interesting piece of Hawaiian and royal history.
