BALANCE LOT
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
138 ogO The desirable and comprehensive balance of the William H. Gross Collection of selected British Commonwealth nations, an exciting assemblage of nearly 3,000 different stamps, the vast majority being mint, mounted in a single album and largely consisting of the countries of British America and British Europe, in addition to Cape of Good Hope and Mauritius, each country is strongly represented and contains a plethora of scarce and valuable mint sets and singles seldom encountered in a collection "balance", we note innumerable stamps which catalog $100.00 to $1,000.00 or more and many of these are in very nice quality, there is very little in the way of high cataloging early used classics in off quality, although a few will be found naturally in Cape of Good Hope and Mauritius; most countries are extremely strong in the period from the late 19th century through the late 1930's with very little material after that, some countries that are especially valuable and comprehensive include Bahamas, Barbados, British Guiana, Cayman Islands, Cyprus, Falkland Islands, Malta, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Trinidad and Turks Islands; as mentioned, the vast majority of the stamps are mint with o.g., although a very few are found without gum, hinging ranges from h.r. to lightly hinged, with just an occasional n.h. stamp, condition for the most part is uniformly fine to very fine, with many being select quality examples; we highly recommend all interested bidders to take extra time to personally examine this collection to fully appreciate its desirability and value, in fact, we firmly believe this collection's total Scott catalog value will approach or even exceed $200,000.00; twenty various certificates accompany.
