United States Whaling mail postal history group of twelve marvelous folded entires, all but one stampless, from as early as 1806 ("on board the Brig Thomas at Quarantine") to 1852, all with fabulous whaling related content and all sent to the
United States from various ship's flung around the world in search of whales, most have incredibly detailed content, much of which is quite poignant and details the perils of a crew member on a whaling ship, we note one interesting 1835 letter from
whaler captain Arthur Cox on the ship "Arab" written while at the Azores and mentions whaling at the "Falklins" (sic), a very early reference to the Falkland Islands, most incoming to typical whaling ports like Baltimore, Boston, New Bedford and
Philadelphia, also includes pages from two other letters (without outside entire), condition varies as to be expected for entires from this time period, fine; a wonderfully historical group. |
