Bay, New Zealand, with large circular To Pay2d. postage due hand"POSTED AT PITCAIRN ISLAND./NO STAMPS AVAILABLE" small unrecorded two line cachet in violet measuring 36x10mm, at top right of very rare interim period cover addressed to Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, with large circular "To Pay/2d." postage due handstamp and with "Wellington/8.Ap.26/N.Z." c.d.s., on reverse is a horizontal strip of New Zealand 1/2p postage dues tied by Dannevirke town c.d.s. paying double the ordinary postage due rate, very faint and minor foxing spots, overall very fine; a highly important cover used during the "No Stamps Available" interim period; when the New Zealand government withdrew its concession on Pitcairn mail on March 12, 1926 all stampless mail from the island was subject to the normal postage due surcharge, this amounted to double the ordinary rate, for fifteen months the Pitcairners were without any authorized postal facilities, this continued until the establishment of the N.Z. postal agency in June of 1927. Grapevine, Texas, with long and fascinating original enclosure filled"POSTED AT PITCAIRN ISLAND./NO STAMPS AVAILABLE." violet two line type XI cachet (S.G. #C14), partial strike at top right corner of a frail business sized postage due cover to Grapevine, Texas, with long and fascinating original enclosure filled with many details and Biblical references, sent via the Canal Zone with "Cristobal, C.Z./May 15 1926" duplex overstriking the cachet, then onward to New Orleans where a two line "Postage Due '4' cents/From New Orleans, La." magenta handstamp was applied, upon arrival in Grapevine a vertical strip of four of U.S. 2c postage dues was affixed and cancelled by that town's c.d.s. postmarks, cover faults including some chipping away of edge at top right affecting the cachet, along with two small tape stains, nevertheless this is one of the most unusual commercial covers extant from the Pitcairn Islands from the "No Stamps Available" period, further enhanced by the presence of the original enclosure.
