As a result, the mail arrived over 24 hours earlier than if it had remained on board the ship. The stamps received their surcharge in New York by order of the Consul General and were used to pay the 10Fr catapult fee. In all, 2,700 90c stamps and 900 1.50Fr stamps were surcharged.
