(slightly disturbed on the 4c), three are never hinged, 5c is a plate number single, fine-extremely fine. For years these were listed in the Scott catalog with separate minor numbers (i.e. #331b, 333a, etc.) and realized strong prices when they came up at auction. In fact, the last time they were listed (in the 2006 edition) they carried at total catalog value of $8,600.00 (for hinged). Recent studies of these stamps have shown that they were not made with "China Clay" paper as originally thought, but were produced on a run of paper stock that had become dirty, creating what are now known as the dirty or muddy paper varieties. The editors at Scott took the rather drastic step of completely delisting these, rather than simply renaming them, as they are a quite distinguishable variety - in our opinion these should still carry a minor number listing as before; each is accompanied by at least one PF certificate and several are ex-Saadi or Floyd.
