varieties, impressive multiples, plating studies and even a few importanBritish India impressive collection offered intact, a highly comprehensive and valuable specialized collection with essays, proofs, specimens, mint and used singles, errors, varieties, impressive multiples, plating studies and even a few important covers, all neatly mounted and written-up on quadrille pages in four albums, the first volume is all 1854-55 Lithographed issue material, starting with used examples of the ½a white (faults) and ½a blue (repaired) "Scinde Dawk" issues, then a wonderful showing of ½a to 8a essays and proof material which fills about half the volume and includes ½a Lion & Palm types, 1a Queen's Head with Gothic crown including a complete sheet of three in olive green, 8a essays, many ½a essays with single impressions, different colors and multiples, with a complete sheet of the 1889 printing, followed by the ½a "Nine Arches" unissued stamp (S.G. #1), ½a proofs, issued stamps including an unused full top right corner margin die I block of sixteen (4x4), die II full right sheet-margin unused block of 16 (2x8), 1a essays including single impressions, single and block of six of 1854 impression in black, 1855 impression complete strip of eight as well as later impressions, useful issued stamps including multiples, there are many of various the 4a impressions including inverted centers in singles, pairs and blocks, nice pleasantly duplicated issued stamps with all five printings well represented and mostly cut square, including a Second Printing pair on cover, and ending with 2a essays and issued stamps, the second volume spans the De La Rue issues to early George V with used singles apparently complete and featuring a lovely 1855 4a Black on blue glazed paper bisect usage on 1859 folded letter from Singapore to Penang (S.G. #35b) with BPA certificate, four used 1866 fiscal issues, 1874 1R sunken die proof, 1880 West India essays in five colors in blocks, 1883 1a bisect usage on 1896 cover with two singles, 1882 1a6p die proof, plus mint ½a and 2a values with double impression, 1894 2R color trials in eight different color combinations, 1898 ¼a surcharge on double impression stamp, five different 1925 official essay surcharges on KEVII stamps and three proofs of the issued surcharges as well as five different essay and two proof surcharges for the George V officials, the third volume continues from George V to Independence and includes scarce booklets, 1921 "Nine/Pies" essay surcharges including two blocks of four as well as the "Nine/Nine" and "Pies/Pies" errors in strips, and inverted and double surcharges in pairs, the ¼a surcharges includes two with surcharge omitted in block of four, then there is a set of the 1925 Delhi specimens and 1931 Inauguration on 1935 Jubilee varieties, the last volume is all officials and includes 1866 unwatermarked ½a, 1a and 8a values used and 8p with no stop after "Service" at the center of a mint strip of three, then there is a nice showing of the 1866 fiscal issues including S.G. #O16 used and a complete mint example from the 1884 government reprint with BPA certificate, as well as mint and used examples of #O19, the "On H.M.S." overprints include some misplaced overprints and 1925 double surcharges as well as the 1926 "One Anna" on 1a error, while there are some faults here and there the overall quality is much nicer than typically found, with the great majority being fine-very fine or better, a very substantial collection which should not be missed. 3145 Oogc   British India interesting collection with many varieties, hundreds of mostly used stamps and a few dozen covers mounted and annotated on quadrille pages in an S.G. Plymouth album, the issues from 1855 to 1921 are well represented, with many plate varieties, overprint varieties, inverted watermarks, some cancel interest, a few multiples and mostly 19th century covers including stampless, we note East India Co. nearly complete with shades, the 1866 fiscals signed by Jal Cooper, 1882-90 issues set of nine overprinted "Specimen", Service issues including many varieties and the fiscals signed by Jal Cooper, mint 1898 ¼a on ½ double surcharge signed Jal Cooper and with RPS certificate, KEVII to 25R with shades, KGV to 25R with shades, 1921 set of five "Nine Pies" surcharge essays, plus "Nine Nine" and "Pies Pies" errors as used singles, in mint combination vertical strip of eight and the rare setting of only the "Pies Pies" error in vertical strip of eight, as well as a used double surcharge with BPA certificate, Lady Minto's Fete stamps and much more, a few small faults, largely fine-very fine; an unusually clean and desirable collection. 3159 Oog   India 1854-55 Lithographed issues large and valuable accumulation of hundreds of mostly used and some mint stamps, as well as a few covers, to give an idea of the scope of this holding we counted the 4a value and found 45 examples cut square, 130 examples cut to shape, four pairs, three of which are tied to piece, with eight items being accompanied by certificates and nearly all types represented, the ½, 1a and 2a values are as numerous if not more so, including mint and used singles, pairs, multiples and a few covers, there are many better cancels to be found throughout, including colored and used abroad, as well as some varieties and a few forgeries, mixed condition ranging from repaired to extremely fine so a careful viewing is essential.
