T-12. $5. 1861. Cr. 47, PF-1. No. 953, Plate G. Confederate States of America in blue on the back. It is commonly referred to as the ""Manouvrier"" note, so named
after the printer J. Manouvrier in New Orleans. The design was thought to be simple and Manouvrier's shipment of notes did not arrive in good order. A total of 15,556 of the $5 were issued but the package containing the $10 notes was broken into and
Treasury officials apparently destroyed them all. This $5 has a nice look. Hammer cancelled, Fine. (Image) |
