887 E   Image1893 2½d = 25c Military franchise essays, comprised of four approximately 180x115mm lithographed proof sheets of four vignettes, the first being the black outline only, the second the red, grey-blue and ocher background colors only, and two finished sheets of four showing different three-color combinations, plus a single in yet a different color combination, fresh and very fine; a rare and attractive offering; these were supposedly designed by a Lt. Col. Delauney and depict the martyred French President, Sadi Carnot and Queen Victoria, the bi-national character of the legend and denomination makes the major interest in these items a foreshadowing of the Condominium.
