1870-1871 National Bank Note Company
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
182 og 134 image#134, 1c Ultramarine with grill, a fabulously fresh and striking mint example of this very difficult stamp, possessing absolutely radiant color and an intense impression on brilliantly fresh paper, plus its centering is outstanding amid enormously large margins which are most uncharacteristic of the grilled Bank Notes, full o.g. with just the faintest suggestion of a minute thin speck (if at all, as this stamp is accompanied by several certificates with conflicting opinions), still extremely fine and one of the finest mint #134's we have ever seen; clean 1978 PF certificate (photocopy) for a block of four, this being the bottom left stamp, clear 1990 PSE certificate and a 2001 PF certificate calling a "tiny thin spot". (Image) 1,900.00

Closed or SOLD for $4,250.00
Closing..Jun-15, 03:00 PM
183 og 134 image#134, 1c Ultramarine with grill, an exquisite quality mint example of this difficult and rare Bank Note, being in a quality that is far superior to the vast majority, with exceptional centering amid uncharacteristically large margins, bright color, full o.g. that shows a well defined grill impression, lightly hinged, extremely fine for this; 1986 PF certificate. (Image) 1,900.00

Closed or SOLD for $1,900.00
Closing..Jun-15, 03:00 PM
184 og 135 image#135, 2c Red brown with grill, especially deep and luxuriant color, well centered, sweated o.g. which has identification number written lightly in ink, very fine; 1986 PF certificate. (Image) 1,100.00

Closed or SOLD for $575.00
Closing..Jun-15, 03:00 PM
185 O 140 image#140, 12c Dull violet with grill, an exceptionally choice used example of this very scarce and challenging stamp to find in premium quality, being not only completely sound (which the vast majority have faults to some degree) but it also possesses exceptional physical characteristics, as it is marvelously well centered amid uncharacteristically large margins, warm rich deep color distinctive only to genuine examples, light but certainly distinguishable grill points (again another trait only associated with genuine examples), lightly cancelled, extremely fine; 2001 PF certificate. (Image) 2,750.00

Closed or SOLD for $2,000.00
Closing..Jun-15, 03:00 PM
186 O 140 image#140, 12c Dull violet with grill, a lovely used example of this perennially difficult and often faked stamp, being among the very few #140's that exist both completely sound and with select centering, warm rich color and an uncharacteristically detailed impression on bright clean paper, unusually well centered top to bottom and side to side, excellent clarity of grill impression, all very lightly and unobtrusively postmarked with a target cancel, extremely fine; among the finest quality examples that have come up for sale at auction in recent years; signed Lester Brookman and accompanied by a 1993 PF certificate. (Image) 2,750.00

Closed or SOLD for $2,600.00
Closing..Jun-15, 03:00 PM
187 O 142 image#142, 24c Purple with grill, a most remarkable used example of this Bank Note rarity, which is infamous for being found in generally terrible quality, this particular example however boasts extraordinary physical attributes that are rarely associated with this stamp, including being flawlessly centered amid very large margins, its color is a remarkably intense shade for this (not the washed out pale shade so often seen) and boasting a superbly struck crossroads cancel, light easily identifiable grill points, the accompanying recently obtained PF certificate inexplicably calls a "small corner crease at top right", which is so inconsequential that we believe it is unworthy of mention, and it is our opinion that this particular copy is actually one of the finest of the small number of #142's that have surfaced on the market over the last few years, still extremely fine; 2001 PF certificate. (Image) 6,500.00

Closed or SOLD for $5,000.00
Closing..Jun-15, 03:00 PM
188 O 144 image#144, 90c Carmine with grill, very scarce sound and certified used example of this difficult and often faked stamp, being nicely centered and with fresh color, very light and unobtrusive cancel, well defined grill impression, very fine for this; 1982 PF certificate. (Image) 1,500.00

Closed or SOLD for $2,000.00
Closing..Jun-15, 03:00 PM
189 og 145 image#145, 1c Ultramarine, attractively centered, bright color, o.g., nearly very fine; 1995 PF certificate. (Image) 450.00

Closed or SOLD for $160.00
Closing..Jun-15, 03:00 PM
190 og 147 image#147, 3c Green, uncommonly fresh and crisp, strong rich color, wonderfully well centered within large margins, unblemished full o.g. with just the faintest suggestion of a hinge mark, extremely fine; 1990 PF certificate; ex-"Chappaqua" Collection. (Image) 300.00

Closed or SOLD for $650.00
Closing..Jun-15, 03:00 PM
191 og 148 image#148, 6c Carmine, an exceptionally choice mint single, being marvelously well centered within large margins, uncommonly deep rich color and a much stronger impression than usual, full o.g., extremely fine; actually a very scarce stamp in this premium original gum condition; 1998 PF certificate. (Image) 625.00

Closed or SOLD for $2,200.00
Closing..Jun-15, 03:00 PM
192 og 152 image#152, 15c Bright orange, a brilliant mint example of this infrequently seen, and in our opinion, terribly undercataloged Bank Note, featuring strikingly intense and vibrant color on bright paper, rather well centered, full o.g., very fine for this; a stamp which is almost always missing in even the most advanced collections of mint United States stamps; 1999 PF certificate. (Image) 1,800.00

Closed or SOLD for $1,900.00
Closing..Jun-15, 03:00 PM
193 og 153 image#153, 24c Purple, seldom seen mint example of this Bank Note, possessing an uncommon overall brilliance not often associated with this, sumptuously rich color, well centered within large margins, full o.g., lightly hinged, very fine and choice; a stamp that is on the "want list" of most collectors; 2001 PF certificate. (Image) 1,500.00

Closed or SOLD for $1,050.00
Closing..Jun-15, 03:00 PM
194 og 153 image#153, 24c Purple, rich color, full o.g., minor h.r., fine; 1996 PF certificate. (Image) 1,500.00

Closed or SOLD for $400.00
Closing..Jun-15, 03:00 PM
195 O 153 image#153, 24c Purple, an incomparable quality used example of this notoriously difficult Bank Note, as each aspect of this stamp is the polar opposite of what is typically encountered, including its massive jumbo margins and outstanding centering within them, its color is an absolutely gorgeous intense shade (not faded as is typically seen), plus its impression is uncommonly strong on bright paper, even its cancel is out of the ordinary, being a light town pmk. as opposed to a nondescript cork cancel, extremely fine; a "one-in-a-million" used gem; 2000 PF certificate. (Image) 140.00

Closed or SOLD for $850.00
Closing..Jun-15, 03:00 PM
196 O 153 image#153, 24c Purple, a rarely seen gem used example of this frustratingly difficult Bank Note, possessing outstanding physical qualities, including being virtually perfectly centered within unusually large margins, strong color that is in a much deeper shade than typically found, beautifully cancelled with a superb central strike of a solid five-point star fancy cancel, extremely fine; an exquisite used gem which possesses exceptional eye appeal; 2000 PF certificate. (Image) 140.00

Closed or SOLD for $450.00
Closing..Jun-15, 03:00 PM
197 O 153 image#153, 24c Purple, choice used example, being exceptionally well centered for this, and with strong rich color, all wonderfully postmarked with a striking red circular cancel, extremely fine and quite pretty; 1999 PF certificate. (Image) 155.00

Closed or SOLD for $160.00
Closing..Jun-15, 03:00 PM
198 O 154 image#154, 30c Black, used, quite well centered and margined, strong rich color, bold strike of crossroads pmk., choice very fine; photocopy of a 1983 PF certificate for a strip of three from which this stamp was taken. (Image) 175.00

Closed or SOLD for $95.00
Closing..Jun-15, 03:00 PM
199 og 155 image#155, 90c Carmine, a handsome mint example of this, the rarest of all the non-grilled Ninety Cent Bank Notes, featuring sumptuously rich National Bank Note color, crisp detailed impression as well, quite well centered and margined, full o.g., very fine; a stamp that is often missing in even very advanced collections; 1990 PSE certificate. (Image) 4,000.00

Closed or SOLD for $1,900.00
Closing..Jun-15, 03:00 PM
1873-1875 Continental Bank Note Company
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
