647 c AAMC 30.8 imageAAMC #30.8, July 2, 1930 Goshen, Ind. interrupted New York to Chicago flight cover, a marvelous example of this wreck cover, being the original envelope addressed to Milwaukee, perfectly singed on all four edges leaving franking and address intact, enclosed in an original glassine envelope, which was then enclosed in a legal sized Post Office Department penalty envelope addressed to the intended recipient, also enclosed within the cover is a typewritten memo from the Post Office stating "The enclosed letter was salvaged from a fire which burned the New York Night Airplane near Goshen, Ind. at 5:50 A.M., July 2, 1930. The incident is very much regretted. P.F. Piasecki, Postmaster," very fine; a poignant reminder of the perils of early air mail service. (Image) Est. 150-200

(many existing examples are found without gum), couple of small thin spots at top (although these are more minor in nature than typically encountered), otherwise extremely fine; a popular and elusive stamp of which only 300 were printed and only a tiny fraction of these still survive today; 2001 PF certificate.
