82 c 63a var. image#63a var., 1c Indigo, an attractively centered example of this extremely scarce and distinctive shade variety, tied to neat white local cover by choice "New-York/Apr 23" c.d.s., with matching target pmk. along side, very fine; the One Cent Indigo shade is the rarest and most desired of all the shade varieties found on this stamp, this particular example displays this shade extraordinarily well, being wonderfully intense and with a sharp detailed impression; any used example of this is scarce, but to find one on cover is a rare opportunity for the 1861 Issue specialist or exhibitor; illustrated in Lester G. Brookman's The United States Postage Stamps of the 19th Century, Volume II (figure 6, page 6), whose caption by Mr. Brookman reads "I consider the Indigo much undervalued at the present time."
