1335 ogOc imageParachute stamps and covers of the world, an unrivaled massive collection formed by Dr. Charles E. Pugh, being the most remarkable assemblage one could imagine of anything philatelic related to parachutes, including stamps, cancels, post cards, covers, collateral, etc., the bulk of the collection is housed in 24 huge binders and contains approximately 8,000 to 9,000 covers and post cards, plus there is a large stockbook housing hundreds of stamps which depict parachutes (many scarce items noted including imperforates and large die proofs) and another stockbook filled with related vignettes, labels and cinderellas; the covers and post cards together form a complete history of the parachute from its early invention in the 19th century to modern 20th century commemorative envelopes, included in this group are very early and desirable illustrated United States advertising covers depicting parachutists and balloonists, there are early pioneer parachute drop covers from the U.S. and abroad by some of the most famous people in the field, there are an incredible number of lovely early picture postcards, WWI and WWII propaganda cards (again all depicting parachutes), there are autographs, documents, special event covers, reunion covers, even a piece of a parachute; all organized by country, with strongest sections being U.S., France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Poland and Russia; the collection is actually a compilation of the two largest such collections in the world, the material formed by Dr. Pugh and that of his close friend, Sidney Jackson, one of the key historical figures in the history of modern parachutes, who bequeathed his collection to Dr. Pugh upon his death; truly this collection is without a doubt one of the most remarkable "topical" collections we have ever seen, and we are certain those bidders that take the time to review the collection in its entirety will agree with our opinion and determine that our estimate is clearly on the conservative side; we have photographed only a tiny fraction of the items found in this unique assemblage to give potential bidders a sampling of the many unusual items found in the collection. 1336 c Rocket Posts of the world collection of approximately 350 covers filling a bulging album, most are first day, special event or commemorative cancellation covers, however we note quite a number of flown rocket covers (many with special rocket adhesives) from as early as the mid-1930's through the 1970's and 1980's, with examples of scarcer earlier material from Australia, Germany, Netherlands, and the United States, the collection is augmented with picture post cards, photos, rocket vignettes, etc.; also accompanying this lot is a similarly large and bulging album devoted to the Paisley Rocket Society of Scotland, this volume being largely newsletters, rocket design sheets and technical data, although there are approximately 25 flown covers included; both albums will be of great interest to the rocket mail specialist and all of the items included are at least fine-very fine; examination suggested to accurately evaluate this lot. Est. 1,000-1,500

Closed or SOLD for $1,050.00
Closing..Jun-16, 09:00 AM
1337 c Space cover collection of well over 1,000 covers all related to space flight, 1960-97, a majority of the covers from the United States and most are cacheted in some way, there are numerous launch, capsule recovery, splashdown and mission landing covers, in addition to other commemorative event items and FDC's, the foreign covers are largely eastern bloc countries, with emphasis on Russian space related events, a few autographed items present as well; this lot is also accompanied by a comprehensive single volume mint topical collection of Nicholas Copernicus stamps (the father of modern science); a very worthwhile collection for the space specialist. Est. 1,000-1,500

Closed or SOLD for $450.00
Closing..Jun-16, 09:00 AM
1338 c Zeppelin Posts of the world specialized "drop mail" collection, a wonderful assemblage of 38 flown Zeppelin covers, 1929-38, all of which are scarcer "drop mail" usages where the airship officer dropped bags of mail (often by parachute) from the captain's gondola over various cities where the Zeppelin would not be stopping, typically the covers then had receiving cancels applied, we note several interesting usages, including a 1929 Orient Flight with drop over Er Ramle, a 1931 Egypt Flight with drop over Jerusalem and a 1931 2nd South America Flight with drop over Cape Verde; in addition to the flown covers there is a small group of early pioneer Zeppelin picture post cards depicting mail being dropped from early airships, including a delightful set of six 1908 German post cards that have been handcolored; condition, with few exceptions is quite nice, with most covers being very fine; a wonderful lot for either the seasoned Zeppelin specialist or the collector beginning this fascinating field. Est. 1,000-1,500

Closed or SOLD for $2,000.00
Closing..Jun-16, 09:00 AM
1339 ogO Worldwide highly interesting collection of thousands of all different stamps, housed in six Scott International albums, four of the volumes contain mixed mint and used stamps primarily from the late 19th century to the 1940's, mostly containing more common material, although an occasional surprise will surface, with noted strength in Canada (including mint $1.00 and $2.00 Jubilees), French Colonies and Switzerland; however the real strength and desirability of this collection will be found in the fifth and sixth volumes which contain only issues of the early to mid-1950's and these are well filled with a plethora of better mint sets from numerous highly desirable countries (this period produced stamps which over the years have leaped in catalog value), there are far too many better items to mention, but we can say there are substantial numbers of sets which catalog from $50.00 to $500.00 (or more), some of the stronger countries include Belgium, China (catalogs alone over $2,700.00), Germany and related areas, Japan, Laos, Liechtenstein, Macau, San Marino, Trieste, etc., the collection is even augmented with scarce Scott unlisted items (primarily imperforates); condition on the earlier material is mixed, although the two most important albums contain only very clean o.g. stamps, some of which (including key values) are n.h., fine-very fine; examination essential to fully evaluate and appreciate this desirable lot. Est. 4,000-5,000

Closed or SOLD for $0.00
Closing..Jun-16, 09:00 AM
1340 ogO Worldwide voluminous mint and used collection housed in eight thick Minkus Supreme Global albums, many thousands of stamps neatly arranged on quadrille pages, although the order of the countries is a bit peculiar as they are placed in a backwards fashion (Asian style), while there are plenty of the common used stamps found in a general worldwide collection, the main virtue (and bulk) of this collection are the thousands of mint sets and singles primarily from the 1960's to 1980's era, and many of these are often found in blocks, some of the more extensive areas include Australia, Canada (including some better earlier stamps), China (both PRC and Taiwan), France, Germany, Japan and Turkey, the latter is especially extensive filling nearly two of the eight volumes with mint blocks of four abounding; while our brief review of the collection revealed no rare stamps, we noted an abundance of mint sets and blocks that catalog in the $10.00 to $150.00 (and a few more) range, some minor duplication throughout, condition varies on earlier material, and actually quite clean on anything of real value, mint stamps all seem to have o.g. and a great majority of these are n.h., fine-very fine overall; a perfect lot for the collector wishing to fill hours, as well as more modern spaces in their worldwide albums. Est. 1,500-2,000

Closed or SOLD for $3,500.00
Closing..Jun-16, 09:00 AM
