734 nh 476A image#476A, 30c Orange red, the extremely rare unwatermarked, perforated 10 issue, the mint single offered here is undeniably among the finest known, as it possesses physical attributes rarely encountered on this notoriously difficult stamp, foremost is its spectacular overall freshness, with vibrant color and a razor-sharp impression on brilliantly white paper, but even its centering is remarkable, as it is nearing perfection amid uncharacteristically large margins (most are strongly off center), immaculate o.g. without a single gum bend or skip, never hinged, extremely fine; a gem example of one of the rarest U.S. stamps of the 20th century, with only two sheets recorded (200 stamps total), this being position 72 from the plate no. 6911 sheet; 1984 and 1997 PF certificates. 1916-1917 Imperforate Washington-Franklin Issues
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
739 nhX 481 var. image#481 var., 1c Green, imperforate, electrolytic printing, bottom margin plate no. 13376 block of fifteen (5 x 3), large margins all around, rich color, o.g., n.h., some minor edge imperfections at bottom, still very fine for this rare experimental printing plate block. (Image) 475.00+

Closed or SOLD for $800.00
Closing..Oct-24, 12:00 PM
740 O 482A image#482A, 2c Deep rose imperforate, Ty. Ia, Schermack Ty. III perforations, extraordinarily well centered for this, particularly when compared to the existing population, with full Schermack perforations at right and traces at left, gorgeous intensely rich deep rose shade which is distinctive only to this type, very light wavy line machine cancel, very fine and choice. This stamp was issued specifically for use by the Schermack Company in their own patented stamp-affixing machines. Much like the 1908 Four Cent Brown imperforate, the stamp dispensing and affixing machines applied the stamps one at a time, often slicing the stamps not on the oblong perforations as intended, but typically well into the design and usually cutting off the perforations on at least one side. That is why well centered examples of both Scott #314A and #482A are highly prized by collectors. The experimental nature of both stamps, issued without advance notice, resulted in few collectors saving and seeking out these rarities. An exceptional quality used example of this important 20th century rarity. Only 38 used examples are recorded (two being in a unique pair), and the example from the Floyd collection ranks among the top 10-15%, being not only one of the few surviving sound examples, but among the finest centered as well. Inexplicably undercataloged, likely due to its infrequent appearances on the auction market. Recent auction realizations have ranged from $20,000.00 for off center examples with faults to $47,500.00 for a well centered sound example with full perforations. Accompanied by 1983 and 1992 PF certificates. (Image) 15,000.00

Closed or SOLD for $45,000.00
