1565 ogc UX27D image#UX27D, 1c Green on gray, rough surfaced card, die II, premium mint example of this immensely rare postal card, being far more elusive than the die I variety on the same wartime stock, in use for only about 1 1/2 months, only six mint "recut" die cards are known to exist, fresh and clean, extremely fine; this card's true rarity (and undervalued catalog price) was remarkably highlighted when a similar example realized an impressive $12,100.00 in the recent Beachboard Sale (Matthew Bennett, Inc., sale #231), we certainly expect the select card offered here to perform similarly (USPCC #S39). 1577 ogc UX41 var. image#UX41 var., 2c on 1c Green on buff, double surcharge, quite attractive "unused" card, displaying a full surcharge, about two-thirds of another overlapping and in a deeper color, with traces of additional surcharges as well, the reverse is preprinted with a Sunbeam appliance advertisement, boxed "CANCELED" marking at left, indicating it was redeemed at the post office for three-quarters of face, the cancellation preventing it from being used again, while "canceled" the card is considered "unused", very fine and rare; unlisted in Scott and unpriced in USPCC; it is believed that this is the unique listing example, accompanied by interesting collateral discussing this fascinating error (USPCC #S57b).
