2019 ogO imageBritish Commonwealth incredibly comprehensive collection 1840-1936 housed in two Imperial albums, formed over many years by a collector who tried to fill every space in the albums, and he was remarkably successful in his quest, with well over 95% of the spaces filled, in fact a good many of the colonies have every space filled, including better colonies such as Canada (the 12p Black is a plate proof with Specimen ovpt. removed), the 19th century contains many scarce and elusive stamps from a wide range colonies, including some specialized Great Britain line engraved and surface printed issues, Cape of Good Hope both Woodblocks in two different shades, New Zealand includes seldom offered roulette and perforation varieties on the Chalon heads, high cataloging Canadian provinces (many with certificates) as well as scarce high cataloging stamps from Australian states, Hong Kong, British Caribbean islands and many other areas, the 20th century contains many popular mint King Edward VII and King George V complete tablet sets, it also contains some of the very rare high values, although these are often with a "Specimen" overprint, or to a lesser extent fiscally cancelled, there are also plenty of $200.00-$800.00 or higher cataloging clean mint stamps throughout the collection, in addition there are many higher cataloging attractive appearing stamps with minor imperfections, and there are many elusive colonies with a very high degree of completion such as Indian States and New Republic, the condition of the 19th century is mixed as one would expect, but there are many scarce or rare stamps with fine or better appearance, much of the 20th century is fine-very fine, and as usual for a collection of this magnitude, there is a small amount of questionable stamps, although many of the better items were purchased individually at various auctions and over 30 certificates (mainly BPA or RPS) accompany better stamps; this is far and away the most complete British Commonwealth collection we have ever offered as one lot and represents a rare opportunity to acquire an advanced collection with which to build upon; just to give a flavor, we have included a photo page of some of the many highlights, however this collection must certainly be viewed to be fully appreciated; our estimate will represent only a small fraction of the enormous total catalog value involved. 2020 ogO British Commonwealth intriguing remainder of the important Gibralter collection, of over 40 items, comprised mostly of failed extensions which now cannot be offered on an individual basis due to the new certificates noting faults, cleaning, forged overprints, or have came back as a genuine but different stamp than submitted, but the fascinating portion of the lot is in the many items with conflicting certificates, these include three scarce G.B. officials (#O43, O48 and O70) with good Brandon, PF or APS certs but with negative BPA certs, a G.B. 3p King Edward with RPS cert and signed Holcombe as the rare S.G. #285a, but current BPA states it to be a sub-shade of #285, Bushire #N19 with good Friedl but negative BPA cert, New Britain #14 signed Bothe BPP but negative BPA, N.W.P.I. 2 1/2p with faint watermark, a Calves certificate states it is the rare wide Crown and narrow A wmk while the BPA states it is the narrow Crown and narrow A, Sudan #MO2 with good BPA cert but negative Hass cert, and perhaps most interesting of all are eight rare Japanese Occupation of Malaya ovpts. cataloging £5,500, all with good Brandon certificates but with negative BPA certs; inspection is obviously essential to determine the true value.
