Cushing" imprint, partial "Providence, R.I./Dec 18 (1878)" duplex postmark, with the date being confirmed by the original enclosure which is clearly dated December 18, 1878, representing the earliest recorded usage of Scott #178, slight irregular opening at right, very fine; an extremely important Bank Note cover, as this (and one other known Dec. 18th usage) have not only supplanted the previous EKU by nearly two months, but proves conclusively that the soft paper printings were produced not only by the American Bank Note Company, but by the Continental Bank Note Company as well, prior to their merger in early 1879; 2000 APS certificate.
