The Four Cent Columbian color error exists in two different shades, one being far more deep, having come from at least two different sheets. The example offered here possesses the most intense rich shade of any we have had the pleasure to offer in our auctions. An exciting opportunity to acquire what has long been considered one of the very finest Four Cent Columbian color errors in existence. The last appearance at auction of this incomparable stamp was in the September 1992 sale of the Roland E. Anderson collection (Ivy, Shreve & Mader, lot #557). It was the highlight of the Anderson sale, realizing a record $32,500.00 (plus 10% buyer's premium) against a then catalog value of $6,500.00.
