663 ogc U140A image#U140A, 2c Red brown on orange, die 52, size 7, knife 53u, wmk. 2, mint "Centennial" entire, magnificently fresh and clean, with strong color and embossing, couple of minor mounting hinge thins on the backflap only and of little consequence considering this entire's incomparable rarity, extremely fine; to our knowledge this is one of only two or three entires of Scott #U140A in existence, and this is the first example we have ever had the privilege to offer in our auctions, as not even the magnificent postal stationery collections offered by this firm over the last several years has had a single example, only the William S. Floyd collection sold by Shreves in October of last year had a cut square, and it realized an impressive $27,500.00 against a then catalog value of $17,500.00; we anticipate the final realization of this entire to well eclipse its current catalog value in light of the Floyd realization for a cut square only; ex-Barkhausen (UPSS #322). (Image) 1,900.00

SOLD for $650.00

Floyd collection realized $5,500.00 in our October 2001 sale (UPSS #449). (Image) 3,250.00
