Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
701 ogc U288 image#U288, 2c Brown on white, die 82, size 7, knife 31, wmk. 7, clean mint entire, clean embossing on fresh paper, a very fine and choice example of this surprisingly scarce entire (UPSS #854). (Image) 650.00

SOLD for $675.00
Closing..Mar-09, 09:00 AM
702 ogc U290 image#U290, 2c Brown on blue, die 82, size 6, knife 19, wmk. 6, mint entire, a superb example of this very rare entire, being in immaculate "post office" fresh condition, extremely fine; only the second example of this entire we have ever offered (UPSS #857). (Image) 2,250.00

SOLD for $1,350.00
Closing..Mar-09, 09:00 AM
703 ogc U309 image#U309, 2c Green on manila, die 87, size 7, knife 31, wmk. 7, an enormously rare unused entire, with printed "Edward Rawlings, Esq./Montreal, Canada" address and vertical printed return notice at left, backflap with light horizontal fold near top, some slight discoloration to the paper, which barely affects the cut square portion, is of little importance considering this entire's immense rarity, otherwise very fine; it is significant to note that over the last several years we have had the pleasure to offer some of the most important postal stationery collections to come on the auction block in decades (the Wampler, "Michigan", Lyons, Summers and Floyd collections), and yet not one of these magnificent holdings had a single example of a #U309 mint or unused entire, and only one collection (Dr. Jerry Summers) had a mint cut square, which realized a record price of $20,900.00, when it sold in June of 2000, versus a then catalog value of $4,500.00; we are aware of only two other mint entires (both ex-Lilly) and our records show no other unused example except for the one offered here; of course, a full corner cut square could be extracted from this entire, but considering the minute number of entires known, this is an extraordinary opportunity for the serious postal stationery collector who is attempting to assemble a complete collection of all known entires (UPSS #921). (Image) 25,000.00

SOLD for $9,000.00
Closing..Mar-09, 09:00 AM
