Official Entires
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
796 ogc UO8 image#UO8, 3c Black Post Office Dept on white, die PD5, size 10, knife 54, wmk. 5, an incredibly rare mint entire, being the first mint example of this we have ever sold and the first to appear at auction in years, unusually fresh and clean for an early official entire, very fine and quite choice; the rarity of this entire cannot be overstated, as it is significant to note that not one of the great stationery collections we have sold in the past several years (including Wampler, "Michigan", Lyons, Summers or Floyd) had a single example; we believe the catalog value quoted in Scott will prove to be woefully inadequate when compared to the final realization of this lot. (Image) 3,750.00

SOLD for $4,750.00
Closing..Mar-09, 09:00 AM
797 ogc UO11 image#UO11, 3c Blue Post Office Dept. on blue, die PD5, size 7, knife 30, wmk. 2, an immensely rare mint entire, being one of the rarest of all U.S. stamped envelope entires, just a minor trace of negligible paper toning, very fine and choice; our records indicate that only four #UO11 entires exist, with this being the finest of the four and one of only two in the more desirable small size, two existing entires are known in the large size (23), but both of these have significant paper toning and discoloration in addition to other faults, there is one other example in the smaller size (7) which is ex-Lilly, however it too has paper toning that is much more pronounced than the example offered here; an extraordinary opportunity for the advanced collector seeking to ultimately obtain an example of every known mint entire (UPSS #PD45). (Image) 50,000.00

SOLD for $37,500.00
Closing..Mar-09, 09:00 AM
