249 og 272a image#272a, 8c Violet brown, watermarked "USIR" in error, an incredibly rare full top margin imprint and plate no. 58 strip of three, clearly showing the "I" of the watermark in the sizable sheet selvage and with the "IR" of the watermark covering all three stamps, each stamp rather well centered, especially deep luxuriant color, full o.g. showing just the barest suggestion of hinging (if at all), very fine; mint examples of the Eight Cent "USIR" watermark error are among the greatest rarities in United States philately, as only fifteen copies have been recorded (seven mint singles, a mint pair and two plate number and imprint strips of three), with so few examples known there is no question that the current catalog value of $3,250.00 for a mint single is woefully inadequate, and a catalog value of $12,500.00 for one of only two known imprint and plate number strips of three is meaningless; because no plate blocks are known, the strip offered here is the only way a plate block collector can represent this great rarity in their collection; 1987 PF certificate. (Image) 12,500.00

SOLD for $9,000.00
Closing..Jun-21, 02:00 PM

(Image) 600.00

SOLD for $1,100.00
Closing..Jun-21, 02:00 PM
251 nh 273 image#273, 10c Dark green, a magnificent quality mint example that is not only exceptionally well centered within lavishly large margins, but also displays a remarkable overall freshness few others enjoys, with strikingly intense color and a razor-sharp impression on clean white paper, the reverse sports immaculate o.g. which has never been hinged, an extremely fine gem; one of the finest examples of this surprisingly challenging stamp we have ever offered; 2002 PF certificate.
