1539 c 103 image#103, 1900 25c Blue U.P.U., re-engraved, tied along with 5c and 10c re-engraved (#101, 102) by "Ambulant/No. 3/31.XII.00-27" c.d.s postmarks on an especially clean cover to Basel, with "Basel/Bfr. Distr./31.XII.00-12" c.d.s. backstamp, 10c also tied by "Bern" straightline pmk., ms. "par Express", extremely fine. Only a tiny number of the 10c re-engraved UPU stamp are known on cover, which is not surprising considering that only 3,850 were printed and the stamp was valid for only 21 days. This particular cover is one of the finest and most attractive known, paying the proper 40c rate (10c for domestic over six miles plus 30c express delivery fee) on the last day of validity. An important UPU cover in remarkably choice condition. Accompanied by a 1988 Emil Rellstab certificate (Zumstein #77C-79C; SF 19,000). (Image) 14,500.00+
