I/II, positions 2 and 4, an exceptionally handsome vertical pair with large margins all around, fresh with strong and sharp detailed impression, beautifully tied to piece by light and unobtrusive red "St. Louis, Mo./Mar 20" c.d.s., this being the only cancel and lacking any pen cancellation which these issues usually have, trivial natural wrinkles at the bottom of the top stamp that in no way detract from its attractiveness or its rarity, an extremely fine example of this rare multiple; clear 1999 PSE certificate; ex-Hind and Caspary. 10 c 1a image#1a, 5c Dark brown, four large even margins, sharp impression and nice example of this darker shade, attractively tied to 1848 folded cover, addressed to John Tucker, President of the Reading Railroad Company in Philadelphia, by light red grid, "Boston/10 Cts/10 Aug." c.d.s. at left, despite the 10c rate marking this is clearly the only stamp that franked this cover and no due markings are present, minor wrinkles to the cover, stamp is very fine and an attractive usage; Ward handstamp on reverse. 11 ng 1b var. image#1b, 5c Brown orange var., a magnificent quality unused example of this very rare and distinctive shade, being far more elusive unused than the Orange brown shade, which itself is a major rarity when found either mint or unused, possessing remarkable physical attributes, including four enormously large and wonderfully balanced margins, with just a bit of the adjoining stamp showing at bottom, gloriously rich and bright brown orange color, plus its impression is unusually sharp on immaculate paper, extremely fine; a true gem example of this important unused classic rarity; listed but unpriced either mint or unused in Scott; 2002 PF certificate. 17 c 2 image#2, 10c Black, three-margin copy on small cover to Ithaca, New York, central pen cancel and matching "Beltsville Md./Novbr 7th" ms. postmark, this tiny town received no 1847 stamps and this is undoubtedly the only known usage of the 1847 Issue from this post office, it is not listed in the new 1847 cover census, in fact out of the nineteen Maryland communities reported with 1847 covers, only five had 10c values used from them, this makes the sixth, as one would expect 95% of those were used from Baltimore, cover has light folds, fine for this; an important item for the 1847 and/or Maryland postal history collector.
