62 O 21 image#21, 1c Blue, Ty. III, the example offered here is, unquestionably, the finest quality used example of the 1857 One Cent Type III we have ever had the pleasure to offer in our auctions, as every aspect of the stamp is the exact opposite of what is normally encountered on this rare and challenging stamp, boasting absolutely flawless centering amid uncharacteristically large margins, its color is especially deep and its impression incredibly detailed on unusually bright paper, even its perforations are full and intact which is a most uncommon occurrence on any perf. 15 issue, light central strike of a rimless grid cancel, extremely fine; a true condition rarity in this gem condition; 2002 PF certificate for a horizontal pair, this being the right stamp. (Image) 2,250.00

SOLD for $6,500.00
Closing..Mar-07, 12:30 PM
63 O 21 image#21, 1c Blue, Ty. III, clear breaks at top and bottom, incredibly well centered and margined for any of the 1c 1857 values, let alone the scarce Ty. III, rich fresh color and a crisp detailed impression, light ms. cancel, tiny crease at left, otherwise extremely fine. (Image) 1,100.00

SOLD for $500.00

SOLD for $250.00
Closing..Mar-07, 12:30 PM
65 og 23 image#23, 1c Blue, Ty. IV, an extraordinarily choice example of one of the most difficult 19th century stamps to find in mint condition, possessing fantastic centering, especially considering that the vast majority of examples are noticeably off center, deep intense color and a razor-sharp impression, full original gum that is only lightly hinged, the accompanying certificate mentions faint toning at bottom right which is practically undetectable and unworthy of mention in our opinion, still an extremely fine example which, in our opinion, ranks among the finest known still retaining their original gum; 2002 PF certificate. (Image) 8,500.00

SOLD for $16,000.00
Closing..Mar-07, 12:30 PM
66 O 23 image#23, 1c Blue, Ty. IV, an outstanding used example of this notoriously difficult stamp, possessing wider margins than normally encountered on this narrowly-spaced type, and being incredibly well centered within them, deep luxuriant color and a strong impression on fresh white paper, light town c.d.s. pmks., extremely fine; a rare stamp in this impressive quality; 2000 PSE certificate. (Image) 700.00

SOLD for $850.00
Closing..Mar-07, 12:30 PM

SOLD for $650.00
Closing..Mar-07, 12:30 PM
68 nh 24 image#24, 1c Blue, Ty. V, well centered within particularly wide margins, deep rich color, o.g., never hinged, very fine; photocopy of a 1996 PF certificate for a block of twelve, this being the top left stamp. (Image) for hinged 175.00

SOLD for $120.00
Closing..Mar-07, 12:30 PM
69 O 25 image#25, 3c Rose, Ty. I, used, unusually well centered for this notoriously difficult stamp, strong rich color, light town cancel, extremely fine; 2002 PF certificate. (Image) 90.00

SOLD for $400.00
Closing..Mar-07, 12:30 PM
70 ogbl 25 image#25, 3c Rose, Ty. I, an incredibly rare mint block of four, centered into the design at right illustrating the difficulty encountered in trying to perforate these exceptionally tightly set images, perforated all around but scissors separated at right so that designs are complete, full o.g., lightly hinged, wonderfully fresh and fine for this, being one of the few blocks yet remaining intact; 1994 PF certificate. (Image) 12,500.00

SOLD for $1,800.00
Closing..Mar-07, 12:30 PM
71 ogbl 26 #26, 3c Dull red, Ty. II, top right corner partial imprint block of ten, with plate no. "20P.", rich color, o.g., top right stamp has a small tone speck and top pair is hinged, bottom block of eight is never hinged, quite well centered for this ranging from fine to very fine. 72 ogbl 26 image#26, 3c Dull red, Ty. II, bottom sheet-margin block of twelve with center line at left, quite well centered for this, o.g., h.r. reinforcing some perforations, but three of the best centered stamps are n.h., small faults to the left straight edge pair, otherwise fine-very fine. (Image) 1,200.00+

SOLD for $280.00
Closing..Mar-07, 12:30 PM
73 ogbl 26a image#26a, 3c Dull red, Ty. IIa, top sheet-margin mint block of four, this type is distinguished from the more common Type II by having the side frame lines broken between each design rather than being continuous, vertical multiples are especially useful in showing this type (top and bottom margin examples of normal Type II are frequently mistaken for Type IIa), only two plates were used for these and Carroll Chase considers them to be actually scarcer than the perforated Type I stamps despite the drastically lesser catalog value assigned to this type, o.g., h.r., fine and an exceptionally elusive block. (Image) 1,900.00

SOLD for $1,350.00
Closing..Mar-07, 12:30 PM
74 O 26a image#26a, 3c Dull red, Ty. IIa, an impressive used example of this terribly difficult stamp to find in premium condition, being extraordinarily well centered amid lavishly large margins which are most uncharacteristic, lovely rich color and impression on bright crisp paper, wonderfully postmarked with a light strike of a blue Gettysberg, Pa. c.d.s., extremely fine; 1997 PF certificate. (Image) 62.50

SOLD for $700.00
Closing..Mar-07, 12:30 PM
75 ogOc #25-26a #25-26, 3c Dull red, Ty. I and II, extensive study of stamps and covers, collection of a total of over 140 stamps including some in various multiples and 120 covers, of these there are nine used singles and two used pairs, plus 35 covers that have perforated Type I stamps printed from the plates that were used for the imperforate issues, there are a few stamps that are Type IIa, though these are difficult to distinguish from top or bottom row Type II stamps, the rest are the normal Type II, among these latter we note mint and unused blocks of four and a mint block of twelve (4x3), majority of the stamps are used singles and pairs collected for their shades, varieties and cancellations, the covers include a wide range of town markings, plus some advertising covers and other better usages, throughout in all of the types plating notations are made where possible, but these are much more difficult to plate than the imperforates, condition is mixed as would be expected in a hoard such as this but there are many fine-very fine items and an excellent collection for the student of this issue. Est. 1,500-2,000

SOLD for $2,600.00
Closing..Mar-07, 12:30 PM
76 O 27 image#27, 5c Brick red, Ty. I, an absolutely gorgeous used example, being in a quality which places it among the finest available, possessing essentially perfect centering amid uncharacteristically large margins, so large in fact that no portion of the design is impinged by perforations, gloriously rich color and perhaps the strongest impression we have ever encountered on a Five Cent Brick red, bright paper as well, fully intact perforations, all wonderfully postmarked with a very light and neat town c.d.s., extremely fine; a lovely used gem for the finest collection; 2002 PF certificate. (Image) 1,400.00
