1507 og S.G. #57a imageS.G. #57a, 1899 6p rose, perforated 11, variety printed on both sides, an incredibly rare mint horizontal pair of this scarce variety, only one sheet of these is believed to have been issued and the majority are found used, only four mint examples are recorded and this is the only multiple, on the obverse the color is fresh and attractive, quite well centered, the impression on the reverse is centered into the design at left as it is on all examples, o.g., l.h., light horizontal crease that pales in significance on this major rarity, otherwise very fine; 1990 RPS certificate (Scott #43a; $1,800.00+). 1514 O S.G. #63 imageS.G. #63, 1882-90 6p Rose, impeforate, an impressive vertical strip of three with well clear to full large margins all around, this strip has portions of two strikes of the very scarce "Stevens & Johnson/Elliston/Post Office" triple-oval cancel, this small post office on Vitu Levu Island ceased to exist some time in the 1890's when the store burned, a black Suva c.d.s. was also used to cancel most pieces seen from there and dates range between 1884 and 1892, this one is dated "July 30, 1890", Suva cancel slightly breaks the paper as usual, otherwise very fine, rare in both its usage and as an imperforate multiple; 2001 RPS of Victoria certificate; ex-Col. Evans (Scott #43 var.). (Image) £1,800

1515 ogObl S.G. #69 S.G. #69, 1882 5/- Dull red and black, an interesting study of this bi-color high value, this was printed in sheets of 50 made up of fifteen different lithographic types of the frame, a mint or used single is present for each of the fifteen types except for types 2 and 4 (type 2 is found in an imperforate block of four), in addition there are four other used singles and two used blocks of four (two singles and the two blocks with December 15, 1900 remainder cancellations), also among the remainders were imperforates that were never postally issued, this collection includes a vertical pair imperforate horizontally and a single, block of four and block of six completely imperforate, all with remainder cancellations, finally a new plate was made in 1900 with the design slightly altered, these were never issued, a single, pair and block of four with remainder cancels round out this collection, o.g. or used, fine-very fine; a nice collection on pages and attractively written up (Scott #45). Est. 500-750

1517 og/nhbl S.G. #70-71 S.G. #70-71, 1891 "2 1/2d." surcharge on 2p Green, full top pane of fifty, this impressive mint pane shows the wide spaced fraction bar in positions 22 and 32, quite fresh for a sheet of this period with o.g., h.r. mostly in selvages and bottom row, at least 38 stamps are never hinged including the the varieties, minor faults in selvage, fine centering; the largest multiple of this was reported to be a block of 35 which is clearly incorrect and this pane is believed to be unique (Scott #50, 5a; $2,290.00+). 1518 ogbl S.G. #73 S.G. #73, 1892 "5d" surcharge on 4p Deep purple, partial pane of 40 (10x4) being the bottom four rows of the top pane of 50, o.g., h.r. at sides and slight adhesion that takes the majority out of the n.h. category, quite fresh, two stamps with thin spots and one stamp in bottom row with tear in the large margin, rest fine-very fine; scarce in so large a multiple and may be the largest known multiple; catalog values are for singles (Scott #51; $2,000.00). 1520 og S.G. #74 var. imageS.G. #74 var., 1892 "Five Pence" narrow setting surcharge on 6p Brownish rose, variety perforated 12 1/2, mint single of this rare perforation variety that is listed by Stanley Gibbons in perforation 10x12 1/2 and unpriced, but unlisted perforated 12 1/2 all around, also shows the variety in the basic stamp of period between "FI" and "JI" in "Fiji", slightly disturbed o.g., h.r. and minor soiling, a fine and possibly unique variety; 2001 RPS of Victoria certificate; ex-Evans where it was noted that no example of either perf. 12 1/2 variety had been seen in any of the major Fiji collections (Scott #52 var.).
