France
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
2558 nh France substantial high quality mint collection in two Lindner hingeless albums, contains over 1,000 different from the period of the 1870's, and very comprehensive to 1959 with a smattering of later issues, the collector was very fastidious and the quality throughout is very high with few exceptions, issues start with 44 of the Peace and Commerce issue, this is the one area where there is some minor duplication and even a few gutter pairs, the collector strived to obtain the best centering he could find, which is a real challenge with these, but includes some great modestly priced values and most are far superior to what is usually encountered, starting with the 20th century the collection is very comprehensive including the 1900-29 definitive series complete, and has most of the later definitives and commemoratives for the period, since the collection has been collected by Yvert and Ceres there are varieties found throughout, semi-postals lack the first set, but are virtually complete thereafter for the period, air mails do not start in earnest until the 1940's, and there is a smattering of issues not listed in Scott such as military stamps and precancels; of significant importance in this collection is the overall quality, the vast majority of the material has been collected never hinged, the few exceptions to this are some of the early Sage issues, though even here never hinged is present, also a few other early issues, especially varieties, are found hinged because that was all that was available, but often even the varieties are n.h. as well, centering is always difficult on the early issues of France into the 1930's, so centering will vary in this period, but many choice examples will be found and fine to very fine is the norm with a great many better; and this is one of the finest collections of France that we have had the pleasure to offer; examination is necessary to truly appreciate this collection; total catalog by Yvert is in excess of €27,500; accompanied by eleven certificates of Calves, Roumet and others. Est. 4,000-5,000

Brun, H. Bloch, Rendon, etc.); early French Colony collections are seldom encountered is such depth. Est. 5,000-7,500
