40 O image#2, 10c Black, positions 81/91R1, bottom left corner sheet-margin vertical pair, large to enormous margins all around, with the sheet margins measuring between 3-4mm, intensely rich color and fine detailed impression on deeply blued paper, light and unobtrusive red grid cancels, faint scored line entirely in the very wide sheet margin at bottom, extremely fine. A spectacular pair of extraordinary beauty and rarity. Vertical pairs of the Ten Cent 1847 Issue are decidedly more elusive than horizontal pairs, especially in such outstanding condition. But to find a corner sheet-margin example is a truly remarkable occurrence. In fact, we believe this to be the only corner sheet-margin vertical pair in existence. Even a horizontal pair with a full corner sheet margin, if it indeed exists, would be of equal rarity and desirablity. Being one of the most important 1847 items known, this pair would be perfectly suited either for exhibition or placement in a collection among other great classic United States condition rarities. Accompanied by a 1974 PF certificate. ex-Engel, Klein. (Image) Est. 15,000-20,000
