Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
1281 og 168 image#168, 2c Dark brown special printing, without gum as issued, an unusually well centered and margined example of this scarce special printing, especially considering that many of this value are significantly off center, natural s.e. at right showing a small portion of marginal arrow marking at bottom, this being the bottom right stamp from the left pane, deep luxuriant color, scissors separated clipping some perforations as typical, very fine; a choice well centered example from one of only a couple of identifiable positions of the approximately 75 copies that are believed to exist; 1958 and 2001 PF certificate. (Image) $5,750.00

SOLD for $3,000.00
Closing..Jun-11, 11:30 AM
1282 og 169 image#169, 3c Blue green special printing, without gum as issued, an unusally handsome example of this immensely rare stamp of which no more than 40 are believed to exist, this particular copy with perforations clear of the design all around and, though centered a bit to the right, this copy is one of the better centered of this small population, fresh and bright, with sumptuously rich color and impression, scissors separated as virtually always, but retaining nearly all of its perforations except for a few at left, a very fine and a choice example of a stamp that is missing in even the most advanced collections; 1953 APS, and 1961 and 2000 PF certificates; ex-Lyons. (Image) $15,000.00

SOLD for $10,500.00

1285 og 172 image#172, 10c Pale brown special printing, without gum as issued, an unusually attractive and fresh example of this extremely rare and terribly challenging stamp, being among the very few existing copies that, though scissors separated, has intact perforations all around, centered a bit to the top but well clear and better than typically seen, rich characteristic color and a crisp detailed impression, very fine and choice; it is believed that no more than 40 examples of this value exist; signed E. Stern and accompanied by 1945 APS and 1991 PF certificates; ex-Col. Green, "Southern Cross". (Image) $14,500.00

SOLD for $8,500.00

1286 og 173 image#173, 12c Dark violet special printing, without gum as issued, a spectacular example of this value, being among the finest of the approximately 60 copies still believed to exist, possessing unusually choice qualities for an 1875 Hard Paper Special Printing, including having select centering within large margins, deep luxuriant color and impression on bright crisp paper, rare intact perforations all around, a trait that exists on probably less than 10% of the existing population, but more amazing is that these perforations have not been scissors separated as is the case on the vast majority, extremely fine and unusually choice example for the most demanding of collectors; 1999 PF certificate. (Image) $5,000.00

SOLD for $5,500.00
