2270 og U9/U644, UC1/UO89 U9/U644, UC1/UO89, Mint cut square collection, the value is found in over 450 different cut squares from the first issue up to the 1930's plus a few 19th century entires including officials, however the collection continues right up to the present with another 100 or so items, all of the issues from the beginning are represented to some degree, there are no rarities, but there are lot of attractive medium priced values up to a couple hundred dollars catalog value with a few higher, usually with nice margins and some full corners mixed in, mostly fine-very fine; a nice collection for many of the basic issues to which can be added the scarcer items. $16,750.00

2271 og U1/565 #U1/565, UC1/47, UO1/72, Impressive mostly mint cut square collection of over 400 different neatly arranged on stockpages, the first Nesbitt issue is mostly used, after that the collection is virtually all mint, good value in the high values of the 1861 through 1874 Issues, with catalog values to about $375.00, air posts are nearly complete including two examples of #UC27, as well as a nice run of official, overall condition is excellent, with a large number of full corners and practically all are cut large and at least very fine, with many being extremely fine; a great lot to start a high-quality collection of cut squares, or for a dealer to obtain clean, highly saleable material. $11,580.00

2272 ogc UX4 var. image#UX4 var., 1c Black on buff, watermark reversed, fresh mint example of this watermarked card that is particularly elusive in mint condition, possessing a rarely seen strong watermark, very fine; the Postmaster General authorized the discontinuance of watermarked paper with this issue but a small quantity of the watermarked paper was left over and used up before the unwatermarked paper was placed in use explaining the rarity of this card, in addition the watermark is usually very faint and often only barely visible, a card showing it as strongly as this example so that the position of the watermark can be easily determined is extremely rare; this is the first mint card with reversed watermark we have offered and only the second mint card that we have ever offered of this rare issue (UPSS #S3b). 2274 Pc UX11P image#UX11P, 1c Grant postal card, double impression, one in black and one in blue with one inverted, properly classified as printer's make-ready, printed in black when the black proofs were being printed and the sheet not accepted, so the sheet was used again to save paper when the printers were getting the press ready to print the issued cards in blue, strong impression of the blue Grant vignette, but weak impression of the blue imprint testifying to the press preparations that were being made, a handsome and scarce item for the postal card collector. 2277 Oc UX21e image#UX21e, 1c Blue on bluish, with the four arcs above and below "IS" pointed, clean used card with attractive Decatur, Ill. flag cancel, displaying the USPCC "Type I" variety of this rarity (a gap at the lower left corner of the "D" in "SIDE"), choice very fine; legend has it that this variety is a result of removal of one of the original 48 subject plates, in order to produce a master die for #UX22, a new plate was hastily recut from a previously rejected example and substituted into service, giving rise to the "pointed arcs" variety, in fact two different positions show this variety accounting for the two types, neither of which appears on the market with any regularity (USPCC #S28f, Type I).
