IV, a showpiece reconstructed right sheet-margin partial imprint and plate "No. 1" block of eight, being one of just a very few recorded plate number multiples of the One Cent Blue Type IV imperforate, consisting of a bottom partial imprint and plate number block of four that was fortuitously reunited years later by John Chapin with the matching partial imprint block of four at top, both blocks quite well margined (bottom block just in at bottom left), strong rich color and impressions, full o.g., each block with a single crease and very negligible toning specks, bottom block with a small cut between the two bottom stamps, overall of very fine and impressive appearance; an important classic plate number multiple, as only one intact plate block of eight is known, which has not surfaced on the market in years; Chapin census #7A; ex-Eno, Klep (bottom block) and Chapin. 53 og 10 var. image#10 var., 3c Deep orange brown, a particularly rare and desirable mint example of one of the most difficult stamps of the 19th century to find mint, especially in this deep shade which is as intense and deep as we have seen, striking prooflike impression and possessing a marvelous overall brilliance, in addition this example possesses four clear to large margins, a most uncommon feature for this value, and including what is probably a portion of the top sheet margin, part o.g., accompanying certificate mentions light tone spots in the top margin which are totally inconsequential, not only because they are so light, but because most could be trimmed away and still leave a large margin, very fine and a stamp with tremendous eye appeal; 1995 PF certificate specifically identifying this as the deep orange brown shade.
