371 O 140 image#140, 12c Dull violet with grill, the used example offered here is, in our opinion, one of the finest, if not the finest, quality used Twelve Cent Grilled Bank Notes in existence, as this magnificent stamp possesses every physical attribute that is typically lacking on other known examples, including being virtually perfectly centered amid enormously large margins which are terribly uncharacteristic of this series in general and of this value in particular, its color is incredibly deep and rich (not the pale shade so often seen), and its perforations all around are uniformly intact and long, all beautifully postmarked with a desirable face-free cancel confined to the far right edge, which complements its overall eye appeal, an extremely fine gem in every regard; while a few attractive #140's have surfaced on the market in recent years, only one other comes close to the phenomenal quality that this wonderful stamp enjoys, that being the example found in Dr. Robert Hinrichs' collection which this firm sold in May of 2004, Dr. Hinrichs' copy realized $7,250.00 (plus the 10% buyer's premium), however it was not nearly as lightly cancelled as the copy offered here; 2004 PF certificate. (Image) $3,000.00

SOLD for $5,000.00
Closing..Apr-08, 12:00 PM
372 O 140 image#140, 12c Dull violet with grill, a visually striking example of this scarce grilled value, its most outstanding feature being a clear central strike of a black numeral "85" in circle cancel, but in addition its condition is exceptionally choice for this issue, being unusually well centered within uncharacteristically large margins, strong color and a sharp impression, and topped off with an easily discernable grill, extremely fine overall; 1999 and 2001 PF certificates. (Image) $3,000.00+

SOLD for $3,000.00
Closing..Apr-08, 12:00 PM
373 O 140 image#140, 12c Dull violet with grill, a striking used example with great visual appeal, boasting incredibly intense color and, most remarkably, is beautifully contrasted by a bold red shield cancellation, unusually well centered for this within generous margins, full even perforations and a well defined grill, barely discernible horizontal crease, otherwise very fine; 1995 PF certificate. (Image) $3,100.00

SOLD for $1,400.00
Closing..Apr-08, 12:00 PM
374 ng 141 image#141, 15c Orange with grill, very rare unused example of this grilled stamp, marvelously fresh color, clearly discernible grill, small thin spot, otherwise a fine example of a seldom offered stamp. (Image) $3,000.00

375 O 141 image#141, 15c Orange with grill, an impressive used example of this rare grilled stamp, being in a spectacular quality which places it among the finest existing used examples, possessing nearly perfect centering amid lavishly large margins most uncharacteristic of this, just as striking is this stamp's absolutely radiant color and impression on bright fresh paper, wonderfully postmarked with both a light circular cork cancel in black and a portion of a red transit c.d.s., easily identifiable grill points, extremely fine and colorful; a most elusive and desirable stamp in this gem condition; 1997 PSE and 1998 PF certificates; ex-Lyons. (Image) $1,290.00

SOLD for $1,500.00
Closing..Apr-08, 12:00 PM
376 O 141 image#141, 15c Orange with grill, an impressive used example, possessing enormously large and wonderfully well balanced margins all around, plus its color is especially deep and vibrant on bright paper, easily identifiable grill points, neat ms. cancel which is decidedly scarcer at this period, extremely fine; an exceptional example of this scarce grilled issue; 1989 and 2004 PF certificates. (Image) $1,200.00

SOLD for $1,500.00
Closing..Apr-08, 12:00 PM
