1245 c image1893 "One Penny." provisional postcard surcharge, perfectly positioned between 1/2p Stone and 1p Dull rose Victoria adhesives (S.G. #19, 22), used on post card to Erfurt, Germany, stamps neatly tied to card by "Kingston/Oc 31 93/Bermuda" duplex cancel, Erfurt arrival c.d.s. at bottom left, a very fine and choice example; this very rare provisional resulted from a reduction in the overseas postcard rate to 1p, with existing stocks of postcards being surcharged, including those cards in stock that had the 1/2p and 1p adhesives applied, it is believed that only 80 or 87 of these cards were so surcharged, with only a very few of these ever being used, and fewer still survive today, with this being among the finest available used examples; 1954 RPS certificate.
