Gray, Jr. plate block collection, a highly desirable assemblage of over 200 different plate blocks (and a couple of souvenir sheets), consisting of all of the remaining plate blocks which could not be offered individually due to their low to medium catalog values, nevertheless virtually all are of the same remarkable quality found on all of the higher valued plates listed individually throughout this catalog, the period represented is 1909 through 1944, being a little sparse in the earliest period, from 1920 on the collection is the strongest, with many early commemoratives, a truly spectacular range of 2c "Red" plates in the finest overall quality we have ever seen, there are wonderfully choice sets of the 1932 Washington-Bicentennials, the 1934-35 perf. and imperf. National Parks and what has to qualify as the best set of 1940 Famous American plate blocks imaginable, air posts cover a longer period to 1969 and are strong, but are missing the most valuable plates, concluding with four select Special Delivery plate blocks; essentially every flat plate block is a full top example and all plates have been carefully selected by Mr. Gray for their centering, margins, color and strength of perforations, o.g., only a few are lightly hinged, rest n.h., one or two with trivial flaws, rest are very fine-extremely fine; a lovely collection "balance" lovingly assembled by a collector with a keen eye for quality; all wonderfully housed in four customized stockbooks with gorgeous gold foil printing on the padded front covers. $5,360.00
