1186 E Revenue essay accumulation of 85 items relating to the early general revenue issues of the United States as listed in Turner's Essays and Proofs of United States Internal Revenue Stamps, starts with a selection of the Liberty Head essays, some of which were printed in fugitive ink, several singles and pairs of the First Issue designs with blank lower tablets printed in two colors, also includes 41 of the $3.50, $5.00 and $25.00 State Coat of Arms vignette plate essays incorporated into the frames of what was used for the Second Issue revenues (Turner Essay 76A, 77A, 78A), plus nineteen Washington vignette essays of various sizes and colors that were used in the first three revenue issues, we also note two rare Sturgeon essays, unlisted in Turner, one in purple with colorless ink "Revenue" overprint, the other in Black with violet security overprint, condition varies, some essays are printed on fragile proof paper with the usual flaws associated with that paper, and some as a matter of course were cut close to the designs even though they may have been die essays, many are fine-very fine and a very useful accumulation; examination will prove beneficial. 1189 Pbl R2P3/100P3, R1P4/98P4 #R2P3/100P3, R1P4/98P4, 1c-$25.00 First Issue revenues, plate proof accumulation consisting of issues on both India and card, includes over 60 proofs on India in singles, pairs and strips, plus three blocks of four, some better high denominations are present, included is a card with six $15.00 Mortgage trimmed to the design and mounted on the card, card proofs consist of over 160 proofs in singles, pairs and strips, plus eleven blocks of four, includes a wide range of values with higher dollar values, condition is quite mixed, India proofs include some cut quite close as well as the usual India flaws, card proofs are generally better though there are some with stains and creases, there are even some in both categories that are severely faulty and not counted, however there are many well margined and sound proofs present that grade fine-very fine or better; a substantial accumulation of this first issue that holds many desirable items and well worth examining. $17,350.00

1193 Pbl R135P3-150P3, R134P4-150P #R135P3-150P3, R134P4-150P4, 1c-$20.00 Third Issue revenues, substantial plate proof collection, a valuable stock consisting of over 150 on India in singles and pairs, plus six blocks of four, then there are over 275 card proofs in singles, pairs and strips, plus an additional 75 mostly blocks of four but a few are larger, all values are present for the paper stock on which they are printed, in the high denominations there are four $20.00 singles on India, the $10.00 Green and black on card has four blocks of four plus fifteen in singles and pairs, and there are five singles of the high value $20.00 on card, we note items with sheet margins and a few multiples with inscriptions, condition is quite clean for a large accumulation, faults where present are usually in the India paper proofs because of the fragile nature of that paper, throughout nearly all are four-margin examples, the vast majority are fine-very fine or better; a very worthwhile stock with numerous desirable and saleable items. $16,800.00

1196 EP Revenue Stamped Paper proof and essay accumulation of 85 items showing a nice representation of the different imprint designs as listed in Turner, some being placed into use and others existing only in essay form, starts with a large size 2c Black of Turner Type B, we note six different Type C that were printed on envelopes, there are eleven Type X in different colors and on different colored papers, there is also the top half of composite Essay 230 with design Types T, W, V, plus there is an excellent stock of 36 Essay 232, printed in the five colors on heavy cardboard that both printed and embossed the design, the most numerous being the more common blue color (250 reported printed) but from three to five each of the other four colors (50 of each reported printed), condition varies including some with wide borders and others cut close, a few on fragile paper have thins or light creasing typical of these, but many are fine-very fine or better; a nice assemblage of scarce proofs and essays. Est. 2,000-3,000

1197 "An Historical Reference List of the Revenue Stamps of the United States, Including the Private Die Proprietary Stamps", by Toppan, Deats & Holland, A Committee of the Boston Philatelic Society, 1899, 415 pages, this is the original edition of the Boston Revenue Book, bound in cloth, binding is a bit worn, inscribed on the first binding leaf (now loose) "To the girl who wrote this book, with the regards of the Committee, Christmas 1899", apparently a presentation copy to an assistant who was very instrumental in the compilation of the book, a fine and scarce edition; highly useful in research of United States revenues. Est. 100-150
