40 c 27 image#27, 5c Brick red, vertical strip of three tied to entire folded letter to France by New Orleans c.d.s. of October 11, 1858, an extraordinarily early usage being acknowledged as the second earliest documented usage known (the earliest usage is October 6,1858, only five days earlier), strip is also tied by red New York accounting c.d.s., various French transits and backstamped Saintes, stamps are rather well centered, though scissors separated, clipping perforations as is quite usual from the New Orleans post office, cover has some discoloration and tape reinforced file folds, a fine and rare cover; signed by Stanley B.
