543 c 61X4 image#61X4, Nashville, Tenn., 5c Gray on gray blue ribbed paper, single in the distinctive gray shade, three large margins, just in at right, tied to attractive seven-star Confederate flag in colors patriotic cover with Jas. L. Gow imprint (Dietz #F7-16), to Shelbyville, Tennessee, clear strikes of blue "Nashville/Ten./Oct. 12, 1861" c.d.s. and matching "Paid" straight line handstamp, both tie the stamp to the cover, soiling on the reverse but very fresh and attractive on the front, a very fine and rare usage; the gray provisionals are the scarcest of the 5c values, frequently coming faulty or cutting the designs, they are particularly rare on cover and patriotic covers are not even listed in Scott or Dietz for this stamp, a wonderful and extraordinarily rare cover for the Nashville collector.
