862 O 2453b image#2453b, 5c Canoe, bureau pre-cancel, gray omitted, used single on piece, with the gray inscription omitted, but a portion of the inscription is mistakenly printed in the brown color of the stamp, very fine; this is the only recorded example of this error; it was first discovered in 1996 in an on-paper mixture of stamps, the discoverer submitted it to the American Philatelic Society, where it received a certificate of authenticity, the current consignor then purchased it from the discoverer; offered for the first time at public auction; accompanied by a 1998 APS certificate, as well as photocopies of two related Linns articles; listed in both Scott and Datz but not yet priced. 873 Ou 3260 var. image#3260 var., Unissued "H" rate stamp, the so-called "Yellow Hat" stamp, a remarkable quality example of this modern rarity, which only exists used, extraordinarily well centered, wonderfully bright and fresh, unusually light purple cancel, extremely fine; only 77 copies of this stamp have been confirmed (including ten newly discovered mint examples), the vast majority of the used copies are either with varying degrees of faults and/or are part of larger multiples, leaving very few fault free examples available to collectors, in fact, this used single is certainly one of the very finest known; 2005 PSE certificate (XF-Superb 95); the highest grade assigned to this stamp, with one or at most two other examples grading 95.
