The Pioneers of Flight Collection - November 29, 2006
The Pioneers of Flight Collection - while only a small handful of lots -
contains some of the most exciting and historically important airmail
postal history in existence.
The United States material in the auction is highlighted by a remarkable
offering of four of the eight known flown covers bearing the famous 1911
"Vin Fiz" semi-official airpost stamp - including the only known example on
an envelope (others are all on card) and the only example known to a
foreign destination. In addition, there are several highly important
letters personally written by Charles A. Lindbergh.
Also found in the Pioneers sale are several extremely rare flown Zeppelin
covers of the world (which complement those found in the David Fishbain
auction conducted on the same day). The highlight being the famous "5" on
20,000r Parahyba Provisional of Brazil on a flown cover - one of only seven
recorded on cover.
