MEXICO
Lot Symbol CatNo. Lot Description CV or Estimate
551 c Sieger #64VII imageSieger #64VII, 1930 Pan-American Flight, a handsome mixed franking cover with Mexican 30c Black air post tied by "Servicio Aereo/Mexico, D.F./30. May. 30" c.d.s., flown by air to Brownsville, Texas the same day with that city's duplex tying U.S. $1.30 Zeppelin, then flown on the return flight from Lakehurst to Friedrichshafen, red German and violet American return flight cachets, backstamped Friedrichshafen, a clean and very fine cover; extremely rare with a total of only fifteen items flown with mixed franking from Mexico, this being one of only five covers with the $1.30 Zeppelin stamp; signed Arthur Falk (Sieger €2,000; Michel #68Gb). (Image) Est. 3,000-4,000

SOLD for $2,400.00

552 c Sieger #88AAb imageSieger #88AAb, Baltic Sea Flight, in combination with the catapult flight of the "Europa" on September 21, 1930 to Southampton, six air posts tied by "Servicio Aereo/Mexico, D.F./4. Ago. 30" c.d.s., addressed "poste restante" to Friedrichshafen, red catapult cachets, forwarded to Friedrichshafen and taken on board the Zeppelin for the Baltic Sea Flight, green flight cachet, with "Berlin-/Staaken/23. 9. 30" backstamp, light edge wrinkles at left, exceptionally colorful franking and very fine; Mexico did not have treaty-state status with the Zeppelin company and postings actually required postage from a recognized country, in this case the United States, however apparently United States postage was not required for the catapult flight, thus when the cover got to Europe and was delivered to Friedrichshafen it apparently was accepted aboard the Zeppelin without the proper mixed franking, this is very analogous to a similar Mexican posting on the 1930 Pan-American Flight (Sieger #64VIII) that was excepted with only Mexican stamps; an incredibly rare Mexican posting that is not listed in Sieger or Michel (Michel #127). (Image) Est. 1,500-2,000

SOLD for $3,250.00
Will close during Public Auction
553 c Sieger #409T imageSieger #409T 1936 First North America Flight of the "Hindenburg", attractively franked cover for the return flight with four air posts of sole Mexican franking, tied by "Servicio Aereo/Mexico, D.F./6. May. 36." c.d.s., violet United States flight cachet, backstamped with Frankfurt Zeppelin machine cancel, cover slightly reduced at left, otherwise very fine; franking with only Mexican stamps was standard for this country unlike the many Latin American postings; signed Roger Koerber, Gappe (Sieger #€1,350; Michel #13).
