726 F Sieger #64DII imageSieger #64DII, 1930 Pan-American Flight, 65c-$2.60 Graf Zeppelins cplt., all three values tied to a single small-size flown first day cover by two strikes of clear "Washington, D.C./Apr 19/1930" duplex handstamped postmarks, with a third strike beneath, the 65c also is tied by the violet American flight cachet, red German flight cachet and small circular violet "Round Trip" cachet, backstamped Friedrichshafen, plus the green New York Zeppelin backstamp and a Chicago backstamp on return to the United States, the adhesives are all well centered with rich fresh colors, the envelope has an air mail border and is neatly pen addressed, extremely fine; a choice example of this rare and ever-popular complete set first day cover, being especially desirable with the "Round Trip" cachet; one of the finest examples we have had the pleasure to offer (Sieger €15,000; Michel #68Gd-f; Scott for #C13-15 single FDC $15,000.00). 727 F Sieger #64F imageSieger #64F, 1930 Pan-American Flight, fresh 65c Zeppelin single tied to flown first day multicolor view card by April 19, 1930 Washington, D.C. machine cancel, most remarkable is that this was flown on the return flight from Lakehurst to Friedrichshafen, violet American return cachet as well as red German flight cachet, backstamped Friedrichshafen, very fine; single 65c Zeppelin values are rare on flown FDC's because the only legs they could frank are the outbound flight to Seville and this return flight to Europe, however being held over for nearly a month and a half from issue until the return flight is highly unusual (Sieger €2,000+; Michel #68Ga; Scott for #C13 FDC $1,200.00+). (Image) Est. 500-750

SOLD for $625.00

728 F Sieger #64G imageSieger #64G, 1930 Pan-American Flight, attractive $1.30 Zeppelin single tied to flown first day cover by April 19, 1930 Washington, D.C. machine cancel, an extremely rare posting on the return flight from Lakehurst to Friedrichshafen, violet American return cachet as well as red German flight cachet, backstamped Friedrichshafen, a fresh stamp and cover, very fine; this value flown on the return flight is even rarer as a FDC than the 65c because there were numerous ways of obtaining a flown FDC on the outbound flight and very few thought of holding it over for so long to go on the return leg (Sieger €2,000+; Michel #68Gb; Scott for #C14 FDC $1,100.00+). 734 c Sieger #64I imageSieger #64I, 1930 Pan-American Flight, an impressive full set cover of the 65c-$2.60 Zeppelin issue with the most amazing Zeppelin franking that we have ever encountered, it starts with a single 65c value, then vertical strips of four of the $1.30 and $2.60 are positioned at each side of a small cover, plus two different 2c Red commemoratives, representing a remarkable $16.24 in postage, all tied by "Paterson/N.J./May 31, 1930" duplexes, flown on the return flight to Friedrichshafen with violet American return flight cachet and red German flight cachet applied to both the front and back, backstamped Friedrichshafen, stamps are quite well centered and fresh with rich colors, most amazing is that none have received any perforation damage though many are near the edges, very fine; a spectacular franking the equal of which probably does not exist; Scott catalog value for just the used stamps is $3,960.00 (Michel #68Gd-f) (Image) Est. 4,000-5,000

738 c Sieger #64A-C imageSieger #64A-C, 1930 Pan-American Flight, three small-size covers flown on the Friedrichshafen to Lakehurst leg of the flight, each bearing a block of four of one of the 65c-$2.60 Zeppelins, all were posted in New York with various central duplex postmarks of that city, each block tied by the edge of the violet American flight cachet, red German flight cachet and each with the Lakehurst green Zeppelin backstamp, blocks are exceptionally well centered, very fine and a rare set of covers (Sieger €1,925+; Michel #66Ga-c; Scott for used blocks of four $4,700.00). 739 c Sieger #64A imageSieger #64A, 1930 Pan-American Flight, a highly unusual flown postage due Zeppelin cover, franked with 65c Zeppelin single, block of four of 10c Lindbergh and 5c Violet air posts, all tied by "New York, N.Y./Varick St. Sta./May 7, 1930" duplexes, addressed to Indianapolis but instructions were for the flight from Friedrichshafen to Bahia, Brazil, which it flew with violet American and red German flight cachets and backstamped Rio de Janeiro, however small violet "Postage due $1.55 cents" handstamp with "$1.55" in pencil was applied, whether in Lakehurst or Indianapolis is not known, but 5c and 50c strip of three with Indianapolis pre-cancels were duly affixed, slight edge wear to the cover damaging a few perfs. of the block, otherwise very fine; our observation is that postage due was seldom charged to Zeppelin covers, underfranking more often being overlooked, but where they came up with $1.55 due is anyone's guess, as the cover was only underpaid by 20c (Sieger €375+; Michel #64Ga).
