804 c Sieger #57P imageSieger #57P, 1930 Pan-American Flight, extremely rare Vatican City posting for the round trip Friedrichshafen to Friedrichshafen, being a multicolor view card with mixed franking of two Vatican City adhesives tied front and back by "Citta del Vaticano/Poste/10. 5. 30" c.d.s. in conjunction with Italian 5L Green air post tied by similar Rome c.d.s., German 2M and 4M South America Flight Zeppelins (2M damaged from being hinged on the stamp) on front and back tied by on-board "Luftschiff/Graf Zeppelin/19. 5. 1930" c.d.s., red German and violet American flight cachets, backstamped Friedrichshafen, also signed by Dr. Eckener, very fine except as noted; only three items were flown from the Vatican on the round trip, this being one of two cards; as a point of interest a photo of the view side of this specific card, prior to the damage to the 2M, was used by the Italian Aerophilatelist S. 805 c Sieger #64R imageSieger #64R, 1930 Pan-American Flight, a spectacular Vatican City posting of a "mini round tripper" franked at three countries of the flight in addition to the original Vatican/Italian franking, lacking only Spain but actually cancelled at Seville on May 19, 1930, a small size white envelope with Vatican 1.25L Blue plus the required 2L Blue air post of Italy, German 2M and 4M South America Flight singles tied by the on-board "Graf Zeppelin" cancel of May 19, 1930 at the beginning of the flight in Friedrichshafen, similar on-board cancel of May 20th when leaving Spain in route to Brazil also cancels the 4M value, Brazilian 10,000r "Graf Zeppelin/U.S.A" stamp tied by Rio de Janeiro c.d.s. of May 25, 1930 on the reverse, Recife postmarks of both May 22nd and 26th, also on the reverse is U.S. $1.30 Zeppelin tied by Lakehurst June 1, 1930 duplex for the return flight, the American flight cachet on the front is for the outbound rather than the return flight, there is no red German cachet as is the case for all covers of this posting, violet small circular "Round Trip" cachet, backstamped at Friedrichshafen, cover opened out for display, very fine; an extremely rare cover with five different countries frankings; only five covers recorded of this posting and one of perhaps only two that are also cancelled at Seville in route (Sieger €9,000; Michel #62/68a).
