303 nh 231 var. image#231 var., 2c Columbian, imperforate between left selvage and stamp, fresh with deep color and strong detailed impression, the left selvage is exceptionally large making this all the more striking, o.g., never hinged, fine centering being just centered into the perfs at top; for some reason it is not Scott's policy to list stamps that are imperforate between the selvage and the stamp as impressive and rare as they might be, and certainly this stamp fits both of those characterizations, this is the only example of this variety of which we are aware and the first time we have ever offered it; a highly important variety and indispensable for anyone building a specialized collection of this value or the United States' first commemorative series for the Columbian Worlds' Fair; 2000 PF certificate.
