1042 c Offices in China postal history collection of sixteen covers from Shanghai to the United States, plus eight inbound covers from around the turn-of-the-century, the latter mostly with U.S. Agency receiving cancels of various types, the outbound covers start as early as 1889 with 5c Indigo (#216) and continues with several Small Bank Note covers including a couple of registered, also a registered Bureau issue 1895 cover posted first in the Chinese postal system with attractive circular registry handstamp of Shanghai, later issues include a card and cover with 1c and 2c Parcel Post franking respectively, also includes three covers with 2c on 1c Shanghai overprint franking, one apparently a paquebot usage being cancelled in Kobe, Japan and another with twelve examples in pairs or strips paying a special delivery fee, condition is varied with some faults present but a number are fine-very fine as well and an interesting lot of this popular area; ex-Bleuler. 1043 c #42, 49, U3 image#49, 1883 $1.00 Rose red, an immensely rare postal usage of this high value along with 1c Green horizontal pair (#42; small perf. flaws) tied to registered 4c Red postal entire (#U3) by target cancels, magenta "Honolulu/Hawaii/May 27 1890" double-circle c.d.s. at left with matching "R" registry handstamp, posted to Leipzig, Germany via San Francisco and New York with transit markings and New York registry label, tiny piece added to the bottom backflap, very fine; this high value, picturing Queen Emma Kaleleonalani, was largely used for fiscal purposes because of its high denomination and a large portion of the remaining were overprinted "Provisional/Govt."; postally used examples are decidedly scarce and examples used on covers are major rarities of Hawaii with only a very few covers known, this being an exceptionally attractive example; ex-Bleuler. 1054 c Firearms and ammunition advertising and related collection in three albums, this collection uses a wide range of materials to extol the virtues of various gun manufactures, at the heart of this collection are 27 gun and ammunition advertising covers and cards of various types, virtually all are illustrated and range from four early covers and two cards of the 1870's-1880's showing pistols as well as rifles, over 20 later covers in the classic era of advertising covers show rifles, shotguns and ammunition, twelve are multicolor including some beautiful hunting scenes, we note four covers of Tabb & Jenkins Hardware Store with illustrated cover and numerous enclosures of their products, some of which are gun related, there are three different types of the beautiful Hazard Powder covers with a multicolor view of a a drake Mallard bursting through, in addition to the advertising covers there are over 35 post cards and trade cards relating to guns and their manufactures such as views of the gun factories, hunters with game and trade cards with beautiful hunting scenes, etc., finally there are over 25 modern covers relating to ducks including sixteen with hunting permit stamps tied, some with cachets in hand colors, plus other types of collateral, condition varies slightly, but overall fine-very fine with some select items throughout; a fabulous collection for the gun collector; ex-Bleuler. 1055 c Illustrated advertising cover collection consisting of 66 covers and 23 cards in two albums with dust cases, the cards are actually quite interesting and are far less common than advertising covers, nearly all are in multicolors and virtually all have been used with only a couple of exceptions, one particually attractive type of card is for nurseries and seed companies with beautiful illustrations of flowers and fruits, there are nine of these cards here, the covers start with the classic period with stamps as early as the 1857 issue, we note a cover of this period for the Finkle & Lyon Sewing Machine Co., there are a fair number of Bank Note period covers, we note an 1873 Steinway & Sons allover front cover with illustration of the Piano Forte with 10c Brown (#150) to Switzerland, turn-of-the-century and later are often multicolor and encompass a wide range of subjects including tobacco, various medicines, carriages, different types of food products, we note an International Stock Feed cover of Minneapolis that is quite nice with return envelope, there are also a number of advertising covers with patriotic illustrations for the Spanish-American war and much more, condition varies, the flaws that exist usually are limited to torn or missing backflaps, most are fine-very fine; ex-Bleuler.
