1102 c 5 image#5, 10c Rose, four mostly large margins, barely clear at bottom, tied to cover to Collinsburgh, La. by red double circle c.d.s. plus ms. crossed pen strokes cancel, stamp lifted and moved to left as the stamp was covering a handstamp black "Paid" and "10" postmaster provisional markings that had apparently been applied to the envelope but not used, beautiful red "Camden/S.C./Mar 22" c.d.s. at left matching the cancel on the stamp, cover reduced at right, very fine; a most unusual usage; ex-Bleuler. 1103 c 5a image#5a, 10c Carmine, large to huge margins all around, distinctive vibrant carmine shade, light corner crease at bottom right entirely in the lavish bottom margin, tied by circular grid cancel to orange cover, with "Clinton, La./17 Sep 1862" c.d.s. at left, posted to Handsboro(ugh) or Mississippi City via Jackson, Miss. and Mobile, absolutely fascinating instructions by the sender speak to the fragile nature of the Confederate postal lines, Union forces were very active near Baton Rouge (30 miles to the south) at this time, sender suggests "If there is no mail from Mobile to Miss. City or Handsboro.....please send by any Con(federate) soldier-or traveler"; slightly reduced at right, very fine; the carmine shade is exceptionally scarce and particularly rare on such an interesting cover; ex-Bleuler. 1104 c 6 image#6, 5c Light blue, London printing, horizontal pair with three margins, just in at left, each stamp cancelled by ms. five-point star, matching "Brazos Bottom, Tex/24th Nov 64" ms. postmark at left, to Independence, Texas in Washington Co., cover with stains and slight discoloration, barely affecting the stamps, fine and rare usage; this tiny discontinued post office of Brazos Bottom was in operation from 1856-1866 (and a couple of years in the 1870's) encompassing the civil war years; it is quite possible that this is the only known Confederate usage from this town; ex-Bleuler. 1108 c 8 image#8, 2c Red brown, tied to unusual across-the-lines cover with ms. "By Flag of Truce Steamer" addressed to Major John Taylor, C.S.A., care of General Lawton, C.S.A., Quarter Master General, Richmond, Va., the stamp has three large margins, in at right, tied by "Richmond/Va./Mar. 27" c.d.s. (probably 1864), edge crease to cover at right just catches the corner margin of the stamp, fine and rare; Gordon Bleuler speculates that this was probably official military mail and that the the Richmond post office probably had monies furnished in a military account for unpaid mail received and addressed to officers; a most unusual and a rare franking; ex-Bleuler. 1111 c 10 image#10, 10c Blue "Frame Line", attractive single with balanced margins, showing most of the four frame lines, bright color and crisp impression, tiny crease upper left and small facial scuff in upper right margin only, tied by nicely struck "Talmage/Ga./May 4 (1864)" c.d.s. to brown paper cover, posted to Acworth, Western & Atlantic Railroad, Georgia, stamp is identified on the reverse as position #62 on the plate, this cover posted shortly before Sherman began his campaign toward Atlanta in August of 1864, the Western and Atlantic railroad served as the major supply line for both the Confederate and Federal forces in northern Georgia; light wrinkling and small erosion in address, still very fine; an attractive "Frame Line" cover with a lovely postmark; 2001 CSA certificate; ex-Bleuler. 1113 c 13c image#13c, 20c Green, diagonal bisect, an important Confederate States usage out of Paris, Texas addressed to Brig. Gen. Stand Watie, Comdg Ind(ian) Division, at Boggy Depot, Choctaw Nation, nice top right diagonal bisect of the 20c Green used as 10c, neatly tied by "Paris/Texas/Mar 15" black c.d.s., marked "Private" and "via Bonham & Express", minor edge toning to cover at top right that just catches the corner of the stamp; very fine and attractive; while the Indian Nations were divided in their allegiances during the Civil War, a portion did align themselves with the Confederate States under General Watie, the only Indian general in the war, who commanded an Indian Brigade; this extremely rare cover is not only a wonderful bisect of a little used stamp but a marvelous piece of Confederate postal history of the Indian Nations; ex-Bleuler. 1114 O 4 image#4, 5c Blue, Stone 2, exceptionally attractive four margin single tied to impressive overall seven-star flag patriotic cover front (Dietz #F7-1) by "Knoxville/Tenn/16 Apr 1863" c.d.s., posted to Holston Bridge in Scott Co., Va., exceptionally fresh and attractive, very fine; Dietz notes that there are only 23 covers known with this rare seven star flag design, but being an early patriotic design they were used with U.S. franking, this is believed to be the only known example with a Confederate States franking; a great CSA rarity despite being only a front; ex-Bleuler.
