Three (3) covers postmarked Christchurch July 2, 8 and 9, 1930; 2 addressed to England and one to Switzerland. Departed Wellington for Sydney July 11th and then by rail, steamer and overland to Karachi, where placed on Imperial Airways plane to London.

1266 NZAMC No. 36q imageNew Zealand, 1930 (July 9, 30) First NZ Dispatches Using U.S. Air Services (NZAMC 36q). Two (2) covers, postmarked Christchurch July 9 and 14, 1930 dispatched on S.S. Makura July 15 for San Francisco. Then by U.S. Air Services to New York, final destination for one and ship to England for the other. "FERRY STATION" cachet applied in San Francisco. Jusqu'a marking cancels airmail in London. Only 48 NZ covers in this first direct dispatch.

1267   imageNew Zealand, 1930 (July 29) Double Airmail Service, Adelaide-Perth and Karachi-London. This first dispatch via the double routing was on the S.S. "Maunganui" from Wellington on July 4, 1930. Letter traveled on Imperial IW69 departing Karachi July 29, arriving Croydon Airport August 4. Only 10 letters for the U.K. and Europe are recorded for this first dispatch from NZ.

1268 NZAMC No. 37a imageNew Zealand, 1930 (Nov. 6) Christchurch-Dunedin Service and Introduction of 3d Airmail Fee (NZAMC 37a). Two covers flown from Christchurch to Dunedin by "Air Service" on Nov. 6, 1930. New fee for airmail 3d in addition to 1d surface rate. First cover signed by pilot McGregor and postmarked in evening of 5th in Christchurch. Second cover is a special airmail envelope postmarked in morning of 6th.

1274 NZAMC No. 39 imageNew Zealand, 1931 (Feb.) Hawkes Bay Earthquake Emergency Air Flights (NZAMC 39). Four (4) covers each postmarked in Napier in Feb 1931 and flown from Hastings. One stamped and signed by pilot, three inscribed "From Earthquake Area," one of which correctly flown free and the other two incorrectly rated and collected 1d postage due. Very nice grouping from these emergency flights. Well underpriced and some unlisted in NZAMC.

One a March 10 pre-printed First Flight cover from Hastings to Gisborne, the other flown Gisborne to Hastings on a later March 16 flight, with rubber-stamped cachet. Both signed by pilot. 1279 NZAMC No. 46b imageNew Zealand, 1931 (Apr. 16) NZ Mail on First Experimental Flight Australia-London (NZAMC 46b). Two (2) covers postmarked in Christchurch Apr 16, 1931, and forwarded to Sydney, Brisbane,and Darwin where Charles Kingsford Smith flew the mail to Singapore and Akyab in the "Southern Cross" and Imperial Airways flew it from there to London. One cover flown to Penang (Straits Settlements) and the other to London. Kingsford Smith signed the London cover. Both have official cachets.
