CONCORD, N.H. /AUGUST 2. Perfect strike of two-line datestamp used as a forwarding marking on 1800 folded letter originating in Boston, addressed to Hopkington and forwarded to Hanover N.H., also
with "30/IY" (Jul. 30) Franklin mark and straightline "Boston" handstamp at lower left, ms. "10" and "2-1/2" rates, fresh and Very Fine, an unusual cover, the nearest post office to Hopkington at the time was in Concord which is why it was reposted
there, the 10c rate was for the first leg as Concord was between 40 and 90 miles from Boston, the forwarding required the additional 2-1/2c because Hanover falls between 90-150 miles from Boston (Image) Search for comparables at SiegelAuctions.com |
