3669		5c Red Brown, Double Transfer Ty. B (1-B). Position 90/100R, vertical pair, top stamp has double transfer, ample to large margins, tied by three strikes of red "10" numeral handstamp, blue "Baltimore Md. 3670		5c Dark Brown (1a). Intense color and impression which we think may even qualify as Blackish Brown, large margins to clear, pre-printing paperfold at bottom center, also with "Dot in "S" variety, tied by red grid and used with Boston Mass., 1c Blue on Pelure (3LB1), the carrier stamp tied by red "Boston 5cts. 14 Mar." integral-rate circular datestamp on blue folded cover to New York, pencil notation on back notes 1849 use VERY FINE. A RARE USE OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE IN A DISTINCTIVE SHADE WITH THE BOSTON CARRIER STAMP TIED BY THE CIRCULAR DATESTAMP. Accompanied by note from Calvet M. Hahn who notes that if this is indeed an 1849 usage then this would be the earliest reported use of the Boston Carrier stamp. His note also states that the color of the 5c stamp would point to an 1850 usage as he believes this comes from the third printing, which did not reach Boston until June 20, 1849. Ex Pope. 3671		5c Red Brown (1). Large margins to clear, rich color, tied by blue "Portsmouth N.H. Aug. 29" circular datestamp with matching "5" handstamp on cover to street address in New York City, with "Via City Despatch Post" ms. notation at lower left, stamp with small corner crease at top left, otherwise Very Fine, a rare usage, accompanied by Feb. 2005 Chronicle article by Gordon Stimmell who notes that eight covers were recently discovered used from Portsmouth with either "Care of" or Via" the City Despatch Post (a local post at this time), these are the only recorded 1847 Issue covers which are directed to go thru a local post (Image) Search for comparables at SiegelAuctions.com	E. 1,500-2,000 SOLD for $4,750.00 Will close during Public Auction

3673		5c Red Brown (1). Horizontal strip of three, large margins to just in, each cancelled by neat ms. "X", "Wallingford Ct. Feb. 16" Valentine week circular datestamp with day in ms. and matching "Paid" handstamp on large folded cover to Middlebury Conn., tiny tear between second and third stamps, right stamp small faults at top right, cover with few corner creases and two corner nicks VERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE USE OF A 5-CENT 1847 STRIP OF THREE TO PAY THE TRIPLE 5-CENT RATE ON A COVER WHICH UNDOUBTEDLY ENCLOSED A VALENTINE. This is one of only three recorded usages from Wallingford Conn.
